Background

The United Nations Security Coordinator introduced the system-wide self-administered learning course entitled “Basic Security in the Field: Staff Safety, Health and Welfare” along with a brief presentation of the CD-ROM. The course, which is aimed at educating United Nations system staff on how to deal with various security situations, was welcomed by CEB members. It was explained that the course is intended to be mandatory for all staff and constitutes an essential part of the Minimum Operating Security Standards (MOSS).

Action

CEB expressed particular appreciation to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for coordinating the inter-agency team, composed of the Office of the United Nations Security Coordinator, the World Food Programme (WFP), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights that developed the course.
