The present report has been prepared in pursuance of Economic and Social Council resolution 2009/27, in which the Council, acknowledging the progress made by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research through the strategic reforms initiated in 2007, noted as areas of progress the establishment of resultsbased management, the establishment of quality standards and certification, and the expanded use of technology-enhanced learning tools. In the same resolution, the Council took note of the recommendation of the Secretary-General concerning the efforts that the Institute could make in laying the groundwork for more efficient training and research service provision within the United Nations system.
