The Chairperson invited the Committee to take stock of where the United Nations system was positioned in the current global economic landscape and to identify the emerging issues and lessons learned from the global financial and economic crisis. The Committee was requested to highlight the practical impact of the work of the system through the joint crisis initiatives at the country level. On the basis of their stocktaking and analysis, the High-level Committee on Programmes should consider the nature of its further work.
Members of the Committee had a wide-ranging discussion on the work of the United Nations system within the context of the United Nations system joint crisis initiatives, taking into consideration the progress that was being made.
The Committee requested the Chairperson to share its analysis and reflection with CEB at its forthcoming session in spring 2010.
